JUNE 2024 NEWSLETTER

On Wednesday May 15th President Albert Janda called the Regular Membership Meeting to order at 12:05 pm followed by an opening prayer by Brother James Weiskopf.
President Janda opened today’s business with the discussion about our organization hav-ing a website in which we could have our newsletters, upcoming events, meeting dates and contact information easily accessed. He told the membership that it would cost approxi-mately $350 and a motion by Brother Derryl Woods and seconded by Brother Joe Carwile that we should go forward with this. Motion was approved by body.
The Treasurer’s report was read by Brother Richard Newcomb and a motion was made and seconded to approve report as read. Motion approved by body.
President Janda spoke briefly about our upcoming event in October and that he had se-cured the date of October 5th with Local 28 for use of their pavilion. He spoke that at the last event we had a fish fry that had cost us $3524.51 and suggested that this time around we may consider having Mexican food catered by Tortilla’s Mexican Restaurant 9602 Spencer Hwy La Porte Texas. The cost for 200 plates would be $2597.18. A motion to accept Mexican for the event was made and seconded and approved by body. Minutes of the May meetings were read and approved with Brother Herman Hailey making clarifica-tion to the body that he was neither supporting or not supporting the amendment but only making an observation as noted in May’s newsletter.
Old Business: President Janda asked for vote counters for our proposed amendment to the By-Laws. Each person in the body was given a vote ballot at the start of meeting in which they could vote for or against the purposed amendment. Brothers Hugh Moore, Joe Car-wile and Derryl Woods volunteered to count. There were 35 votes cast : 12 votes Yes for amendment,
23 No for amendment. Amendment failed to pass.
Drawing for the 3 gift cards was held. Winners were Brother Pete Reyes, Sister Sue Janda and Brother Danny Hernandez. The lottery winners were Sister Martha Russell and Broth-er Pat
McAdams. The Wooden Trash Cans raffle ended with the winners being Ann Johnson and
Sister Martha Russell. Brother Larry Hart and Brother Herman Hailey spoke about costs of
Funerals. With no other business to address meeting was adjourned followed by prayer.

The regular Executive Board Meeting met on June 5th at 10:00am following an opening prayer By Brother Tony Morris. President Janda discussed that we will again have several guests at June’s regular meeting. They will be J. W. Forte and Malcolm Pierre from Prudential. Discussion was made that we will attempt to have several copies of our Newsletter trans-lated to Spanish and will be available at the door. We also discussed the October 5th festi-val in which we will have Mexican food plates available at $15 each and that they will con-sist of 1 taco (ground beef), 1 beef and 1 cheese enchilada, rice and beans. Chips and salsa will also be provided. Tea and water will also be available. Food serving time will be from 11am to 2 pm. Door prizes were discussed and we plan to have a Microwave, Color TV and a Keurig Coffee Maker. One prize each hour. You must be present or have someone present with your ticket to win.
Raffle for next meeting will be a 6 Piece Steak Knife Set by Buck Royalty line of Custom Cutlery which are 425M modified stainless steel with red micarta handles in a custom box. Motion was made to sell tickets for $5 each. Motion carried. Lunch for June 19th meeting will be Chicken Spaghetti, Salad and Garlic Bread. Parmesan cheese, desserts and tea will also be available. Meeting adjourned at 11:19am followed by closing prayer by Brother David Janda.

The Executive Board meets the 1st Wednesday of each month 10am. (EXCEPT FOR DE-CEMBER) 2 weeks before the scheduled members meeting at Local 1351 2145 Alabama St. Pasadena, Texas 77503

Your $25 dues for 2024 are now Past due. Please mail to this address in care of Richard Newcomb and make the check out to ILA Retirees Assn. (no cash) If not received by Feb-ruary 28, you will be dropped, and no further newsletters will be sent to you. You may al-so pay at the meeting.
