SEPTEMBER 2024 NEWSLETTER
THE SEPTEMBER MEETING WILL BE ON
WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 18TH AT LOCAL 24 AT THE REGULAR TIME OF 12:00 NOON
On Wednesday August 21st the regular meeting of ILA Retirees’ Association was called to order by President Albert Janda at 12:00 noon with an opening prayer.
The guest speaker was J. Wesley Forte of Prudential Financial. He addressed the membership and spoke about several plans which Prudential offered. The first of these were a Buffer Annuity that was available to help protect against Stock Market changes and that allows investors to participate in some market gains while offering some protection against losses. The second thing he mentioned was a 529 plan which is a tax advantaged plan that can be used to help save on education related expenses such as tuition, housing and supplies and is one of the best ways to save for college. Lastly he spoke about long term care that would help provide some assistance against costs incurred with the costly expense of medical and hospital stays. Brother Jerry Hibbler thanked Mr. Forte for coming and speaking at our meetings.
The minutes of the August regular and executive board meetings were read and discussed and a motion to accept as read was made and seconded. Approved by membership.
The Treasurer’s report was read by Brother Richard Newcomb and approved by membership.
President Albert Janda spoke briefly about the “Buddy Raspberry Scholarship” and a list of awarded participants to this program was made available. Brother David Keller told the membership that he believes the application for those who want consideration for this scholarship is online only. For online application can be made through www.wgma.org tab Scholarship.
Under new business Brother Sammy Wells told membership about the Trustee meeting last week and that he was told that there is still a problem with long term care surrounding physical therapy. Brother Wells told the body that the number of active participants in our plan has decreased from 759 in October 2022 to 732 in October 2023. Brother J. Hibbler thanked Brother Wells for his reports and that he is doing a great job of providing information to our group. Brother Hibbler spoke to body about how we have a strong foundation and asked for everyone to stand up and to support our union if we were to go on Strike. President Albert Janda asked the membership that if anyone would like tobe nominated for the position on the Executive Board left vacant by Brother Lambert please speak to anyone on the board for consideration. We closed the meeting with drawings for the gift cards and the lottery number drawings.
The regular Executive Board Meeting met on September 4th at 10:00 am following a prayer by Brother James Weiskopf. President Janda asked that we keep Brothers Victor Bass, Brother Derryl Wood and Brother Vic Landgrebe in our prayers for their recent illnesses.
