Brother Larry Hart spoke to the membership about Neuropathy which is a form of nerve damage that affects million of Americans and has a variety of symptoms including muscle weakness, trouble walking or running, balance and numbness in hands and feet. Brother Hart told the membership that a Dr. Igor Cherches a Neurologist on Fannin Street at UTHealth Houston Neurosciences in Texas Medical Center was recommended by Brother Jerry Hibbler and provides bloodwork, MRI and nerve tests and can provide treatment in most cases. Neuropathy often accompanies other health problems including diabetes, cancer or injury. Please consider this possibility if you are having pain in hands or feet. Often this pain feels like a stabbing pain or a continuing numbness. The membership thanks everyone that brings forth any information like this because it can affect us all.

The regular Executive Board set on October 2nd at 11am at Local 1351. The meeting began with discussion of the strike that is now in effect for all ILA ports along the East and Gulf Coasts. As everyone in the ILA family is aware that it is the first time since 1977 that we had to go on strike. In short it is over the contract between ILA and the United States Maritime Alliance known as USMX. Automation is, along with wages, the key issues behind the strike.
President Janda spoke to the board that we are still actively seeking anyone that would like to be considered for nomination as a director on the Executive Board should contact any member.
It was decided that for the October regular membership meeting that lunch would be chicken fried steak, new potatoes with gravy and black-eyed peas. Tea and desserts will also be provided with lunch. The rest of the meeting was discussion on preparing for the October 5th festival. Meeting was adjourned at 12:20 pm followed by prayer from Brother David Janda.
