                   THE AUGUST 2025 MEETING WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 20^TH AT LOCAL 24 AT  THE REGULAR TIME OF 12:00 NOON 

PLEASE REMIND OTHER RETIREES TO ATTEND OUR MEETINGS   AND HELP SUPPORT OUR ORGANIZATION

             The Regular Membership Meeting of July 16^th was called to order at 12:00 pm by President Albert Janda followed by an opening prayer by Brother T. C. Nash.  President Janda told the membership about the sudden passing of Brother Michael Burke who was a valued member of the Executive Board of this organization.  We ask everyone to keep his family in your prayers and that I will try to keep everyone informed about any funeral or celebration of life planned. Brother Richard Newcomb will be temporarily away from his duties as Treasurer as he will be recovering from back surgery. During this time the duties of Treasurer will be handled by Brother Weber.  It should be  noted that at the July membership meeting that after the minutes were read and approved I mistakenly said that the motion to accept them as read was made and then seconded by Brother Ronnie Selk instead of by Brother Lloyd Klinkerman. President Janda spoke about our October 4^th festival and reminded everyone that this year it will be a fish fry where three pieces of fish, French fries, coleslaw and hush puppies will be the menu and it is to be at the Local 28’s pavilion. There will be only 170 total tickets sold and they will be available for purchase starting at the August 20^th meeting. Brother T. C. Nash addressed the body that he had some problems with insurance not covering expenses due to the doctor being out of network and he suggested that any medical procedures or exams be checked for this if different from normal.  It should be noted that if Medicare denies an expense that Cigna normally follows what Medicare does. President Janda gave a brief report that the Port of Houston business is up 12% this year and it is projected that the Port of Houston will be #1 waterway in the United States in the coming years.  Drawings for this month followed and the results on the three gift cards were; $50 gift card ticket #342444 went to Brother Danny Hernandez, $30 gift card #342471 went to Brother Joe Cordova, and $30 gift card #342419 went to Brother Pedro Montemayor.   The number lottery winners were Sister Lou Kelly and Brother G. L. Simpson. The meeting was adjourned at 1:40pm followed by a prayer from Brother James Weiskopf.

            The regular Executive Board meeting was held on August 6^th 2025 at 10:00 am with an opening prayer by Brother James Weiskopf.  President Janda told the board that he had spoken with Brother Michael Burke’s family and that at present a Celebration of Life with be in the near future and they will let us know when and where it will be. I will post any news on the website as so as I get it. We will start selling the October 4^th festival tickets this month at our regular membership meeting. They will be $15 each and there will only be 170 tickets for sale.  As mentioned before it will be a fish fry with each plate consisting of three pieces of fish, French fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. We will have a band playing and games to play such as a bean bag toss game (cornhole game) and possibly a horse shoe game ( rubber horseshoe set as to not damage ground around pavilion ). We have not decided on if we will have door prizes as of yet. We will again have gift card drawings at the next meeting and it will be 2 X $30 each with each chance being $1 each again this month. The menu for this month will be a choice of fried chicken or roasted chicken, new potatoes and green beans. Desert and ice tea will be available. Meals will be $10 each. With no other business the meeting was adjourned at 11:25 followed by a prayer by Brother David Janda.

Remember that this month’s regular meeting on August 20^th  and there will be the drawing for the 2 x $30 Gift Card Drawing and again they will be only be $1 per ticket this month.

Your $25- 2025 dues are now past due.  Please mail to this address in care of Richard Newcomb and make the check out to ILA RETIREES ASSOCIATION ( no cash ).  If not received by February 28th 2025 you will dropped and no further newsletter will be sent to you. You may also pay at meetings.
