The Regular Membership Meeting of the ILA Retirees’ Association met on January 15th 2025. The meeting was opened at 12:00 noon by President Albert Janda followed by a prayer. He spoke about a fundraiser in which we will have wooden trash cans as we did before and that they would be made with multiple stains/colors. President Gabriel Garza of Local 24 spoke to the membership about the negotiations that are going on with ILA and USMX. He said that currently the contract is centered around several issues. First there would be no automatic automation and that if there is any it will be with strict guidelines (rules) and secondly that the container royalty cap would be removed and that 100% would be for ILA. He spoke about the increase in wages of $24 dollars over the six year period of the contract. He then said that new workers would jump from the $24 hour starting wage to $27 an hour and would reach full pay after 4 years. He mentioned that there are some changes regarding drug policies and that there may be a rehabilitation clause included. Brother Herman Hailey asked if we could benefit from the container royalty fund changes. Brother Garza said he would ask about it. Brother Bobby Wooley asked if we could have a retired member on the ILA/USMX board. Brother Garza said he would check into it. Brother Garza finished by telling the membership about container royalty checks for recent retirees being available for two years with 500 hours a year and that there may be a third year with zero hours necessary.
The minutes of previous meetings and treasury report were approved as having been read by a motion made and seconded. Approved by body. The Trustee Report was made by Brother Sammy Wells and that at the next meeting on March 4th we will see if we get approval of a Part B Reimbursement check so it would be necessary that you keep a copy of the form SSA-1099 from the Treasury Dept. IRS showing what our Part B deductions were. Brother Wells spoke about how well funded our fund is and a that a notice is being sent out to all retirees with amounts and percentage of assets to liabilities and the funded percentages. It will include information on total number of participants and beneficiaries covered by plan. The elections of Brother F. Ardila, Brother Derryl Wood and Brother Randy Weber were approved by the body and a motion by Brother J. Hibbler and seconded by Brother Ray Rutz to accept approvals by body was made and approved. The Executive Board still needs two more directors to fill the empty positions on the board. The results of the winners of gift cards were Brother D. Wood, Brother Hermann Hailey and Brother L Garcia. Winner of number lottery were Brother Ray Rutz and Sister Sue Janda. With no other business meeting was adjourned with closing prayer by Brother Wells.
The Regular Executive Board met on February 5th 2025 with the meeting being opened with a prayer by Brother David Janda. The Treasurer’s report was read with a total of $6,675.16 as a balance presently. President Janda opened with a discussion of approaching the body with the idea that the regular meetings could be changed to every other month instead of monthly. This would help cut costs of the newsletters. If the body agrees with that it would require a change in By-Laws Article V and require readings and approval. A motion was made by Brother Weiskoft and seconded by Brother Morris that we change the gift cards to 2 cards with a $30 value each. Approved by board. Jackie Hill Murphy came before the board and said she and several friends are having our next regular meeting lunch catered from Ernie’s Café and Catering and would have three different meats. It will be meat loaf/gravy, chicken fried chicken, and fried catfish. It will have green beans, rice pilaf, mashed potatoes and gravy. Dessert will be carrot cake and cheese cake. With no other business meeting was adjourned at 11:50 am.
